Blackmagic Design Reveals New Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

Blackmagic Design has announced its newest handheld camera model, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. Pre-orders are now live via B&H Photo-Video for $2,495 with shipments set to begin on August 12.

"The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K features incredible new 6K imaging and EF lens support that customers have asked for," said Grant Petty, Blackmagic Design CEO. "It has all of the great features customers love from the 4K model, but now adds an EF lens, increased 6K resolution for even higher quality images and more. Plus, with the built in Video Assist features, customers don't have to purchase and carry around extra equipment. DaVinci Resolve Studio is also included, making it an incredible all in one solution that enables anyone to be creative and tell a story."

Geared toward use for independent films, documentaries, and vlogs, the new Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K features a full Super 35 size 6K (6144 x 3456) HDR image sensor and an EF lens mount. The device can shoot up to 50 fps at 6144 x 3456 16:9, 60 fps at 6144 x 2560 2.4:1, and 60 fps at 5744 x 3024 17:9. Likewise, the camera supports 13 stops of dynamic range and is capable of exceeding the DCI-P3 colorspace. In addition, the unit offers dual native ISO up to 25,600 for superior low light performance.

Meanwhile, the camera body itself uses a compact, handheld design constructed from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite. Integrated SD, UHS-II, and CFast card recorders are included as well, along with a rear 5" touchscreen, and a full size HDMI connector. Finally, the package also comes bundled with an activation key for DaVinci Resolve Studio post production software.
