ArcSoft Announces New Embedded Imaging Solutions

Monterey, CA — Nov 08, 2007

ArcSoft, Inc. announced three new embedded software imaging solutions today at the 6Sight Future of Imaging conference. The solutions optimize photos taken in common situations encountered by amateur photographers, and are available as software development kits (SDKs) for digital cameras and camera phones.

"Because today's digital cameras and camera phones are taken everywhere, consumers need easy to use and high performing solutions built into their devices," said Stéphan Côté, ArcSoft Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Our technologies provide complete solutions for enhancing photos taken under common, less than ideal conditions – so even casual photographers end up with high quality photos."

The ArcSoft PerfectPortrait Capture addresses problems that arise when capturing portrait photos, such as red eye, shadowed faces, closed eyes, washed out faces, and unpleasant expressions. The component technologies include FaceTracking, Smile Detection, Blink Detection, and Automatic Red-Eye Removal. Together, these technologies enable even inexperienced users to easily create "picture perfect" portraits with every shot.

The ArcSoft LoLight Capture solution enhances photos taken in unfavorable lighting conditions – photos that are too dark, have been taken with a flash, or have back or side lighting. The component technologies include Anti-Shaking, which reduces both local and global blur; Dynamic Lighting, which brightens underexposed areas, balances overexposed areas, and enhances dynamic range; and Smart De-Noise, which reduces photo noise based on camera sensors and ISO values.

The ArcSoft Panorama solution includes three algorithms for producing panoramic images. StillCapture creates the panoramic image using multiple photos taken in quick succession. BurstCapture creates the image from a "burst" shot, in which the user spins in place while the camera automatically captures the component photos. VideoCapture creates the image out of a video clip.
