Apple Addresses the iPhone 5 Purple Lens Flare Issue
Apple has come out with an official statement on the issue which, while true, avoids the main issue completely.
"Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources," says the troubleshooting entry. "Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect."
Of course, that only speaks to the concerns about the lens flare itself, and not to the actual problem of the flare being purple.
