A Long-Awaited Successor: Panasonic Unveils the LUMIX DMC-GH5

For all of us who have loved the amazing control and quality of both stills and video produced by the Panasonic GH4, they have finally announced the creation of the GH5. Sporting a New 20.3-Megapixel Digital Live MOS imaging sensor, New Venus Engine image processor, 5-axis Dual I.S. (works with Power O.I.S. lenses), and new Depth from Defocus / Contrast AF technology for incredibly fast and accurate Autofocus; the New GH5 is pushing the boundaries once again like the GH4 before it.

You will also find all of the convenience features as well; including Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-FiĀ® 5GHz (IEEE 802.11ac) connectivity, battery grip, microphone adapter, amazing high resolution LCD and Live Viewfinder, and dual SD memory card slots on the completely weather-sealed body.

The GH5 will become the first Digital Single Lens Mirrorless camera, once released, to meet professional video standards, by providing the quality and advanced features that a professional needs. Capturing 4K video at up to 60fps with 4:2:2 / 10-bit video color sampling, you get film-quality color reproduction. A wide variety of recording formats, with an even wider variety of options are available to assure the videographer that they have the settings they need.

Still image shooting performance from the GH5 is said to be outstanding, led by the camera's new 6K/4K photo burst shooting modes that capture 18-Megapixel images at 30fps or 8-Megapixel images at 60fps. Panasonic has also increased the quality of this shooting mode to provide better overall images. Add this to the lightning fast AF system, approx. 0.05 sec, that can produce 12fps in AFS and 9fps in AFC modes and you will never have to worry about missing a shot again.

We got the opportunity to get some hands on time with a pre-production GH5, which you can see in our Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GH5 Hands-On Preview.
