32 MBytes SmartMedia: First Samples Available

digitalkamera.de reports that the Korean memory chip manufacturer Samsung has sent to Europe for tests the first samples of SmartMedia cards with 32 MBytes capacity. This will give an opportunity to test whether they can be used in the Olympus C-1400 XL without problems. The new cards should be available in large volumes from February. The market introduction by camera manufacturers is likely to take place at CeBIT in March 1999.

New Windows/NT FlashPath driver supports 32 MBytes SmartMedia cards.

Just a few weeks after the 16 MBytes-capable Windows NT driver (version 3.04) for the FlashPath floppy adapter became available, the latest version 3.05 now also supports the coming 32 MBytes cards. The driver can be downloaded from the Olympus web-site free of charge and also works with the FlashPath floppy adapters of other camera manufacturers. 32 MBytes drivers for Windows 95/98 will likewise shortly be available.
