2010 Pulitzer Prize Winners Announced
The Pulitzer is one of the highest honors a news photographer can get. It not only recognizes a photographer's particular achievement, but also symbolizes the respect of the photography community for an individual.
This year's winner in the Breaking News Photographer category, which typically consists of just a few photographs of news as it's happening, was Mary Chind of the Des Moines Register. She captured the image of a construction worker on a makeshift harness reaching out to save a woman trapped in the water beneath a dam.
Craig F. Walker of the Denver Post took home the honors for Feature Photography. Walker's photographs follow teenager Ian Fisher as he begins his career in the military. It's an incredibly intimate portrait, and one definitely deserving of the acclaim.
