Today we posted the full reviews of Sony's latest and most economically priced Cyber-shot cameras. The DSC-P31 is a sub-, pocket-size, two megapixel camera that captures stills and movies but lacks an optical zoom. It's bigger brother is the sub- DSC-P51, also a two megapixel camera with a 2x optical zoom. 04/23/2002: Kodak Debuts Special Edition LS420 EasyShare Camera
Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, N.Y., USA, unveiled a new special edition Kodak EasyShare LS420 Digital Camera, a metallic 2.1-megapixel camera producing images up to 1752x1168 pixels. The LS420 weighs five-and-a-half ounces and is part of the Kodak EasyShare system. It has a fixed focal length 38mm (35mm equivalent) lens with a 3x continuous digital zoom. In addition to still images it can record 320x240 or 160x120 QuickTime movies with audio. Images and movies may be reviewed on the built-in 1.6-inch color LCD. 04/22/2002: Canon Posts New D30 Firmware
Today Canon posted EOS D30 firmware v1.0.3.0 which increases the reliability of USB communication when the EOS D30 and a compatible PC or Macintosh computer are connected with the USB interface. The most noticeable improvement occurs during Interval Timer Shooting and Timer Shooting using Remote Capture. The firmware update is for cameras bearing the serial numbers xxx200001 to xxx899999. Cameras already updated with the new firmware will have a note to that fact in the box. EOS D30 owners using Windows XP or Windows Me are also encouraged to download the new D30 USB WIA Driver 4.2. This driver software can be downloaded from the Canon web site in your market, see the links on the Canon BeBIT D30 firmware page. There has been some people who were worried about their Powershot G2 / G2 Black cameras due to a small crack in the rear of the body case. Canon has posted the following notice: "To Our Valued PowerShot G2 Customers: Thank you for your patronage of Canon Digital Cameras. Canon has regrettably confirmed Internet reports of a 'crack in the rear cover' in some samples of the Canon PowerShot G2/G2 Black model cameras. 04/17/2002: World's Largest Digital Photo Mosaic
A collage of photographs of 3,500 people has been turned into what is being described as the biggest digital photo image ever created, BBC News reported. The snapshots have been put together in a mosaic which, when viewed from a distance, looks like an image of just 15 people. The mosaic is the size of two Olympic swimming pools and dominates the view at a busy junction in central London, England, where it has been wrapped around the British Film Institute's Imax cinema by Waterloo Bridge. It was created by celebrity photographer Rankin and artist Robert Silvers, who invented the technique of making photo mosaics, according to the report. Called "You Can," it was created by Canon using self-portraits taken by its employees from across Europe. 04/14/2002: Fuji Debuts Photo-Shooting Kit For Internet Auctions
Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, is offering a photo-taking support kit including a digital photo stand and a box, AsiaBizTech news reported. Photos of products taken with this kit are suitable for posting on Internet auction sites, the company said. A digital photo stand is used for taking photos of products, and on it a digital camera is fixed. Angles and height can be changed. The box where an object item is located for shooting is covered with translucent white screen material. The company says the box will help provide even lighting for the product using a fluorescent light. The resulting effect gives the object a near-three-dimensional look.
