Xara Menu Maker: Making Graphical Navigation Bars
The Xara Menu Maker allows users to quickly and efficiently create navigation bars (Navbar) and menus. This is all done through a wizard-like interface that walks users through system. Then, the menus and Navbars can be further customized based on the user’s preferences.
Step 1: Selecting a Navbar Template
To start creating a Navbar, users simply need to press start. This will bring up all the available Navbar designs. To scroll through them, simply press the arrows located in the top right-hand corner. When a user finds one that he likes, he simply needs to double-click on it.
Users should go with a Navbar design that is rather simple if they plan on using it for the professional website. It will look more formal that more garish selections.
Step 2: Editing the Text
Once the Navbar option has been selected, users can manipulate items like text, color and menus. This is done by selecting the options listed on the left-hand side of the screen. To edit the text, simply click on the Text button located at the top of the column. This will open up the editing dialogue box.
Within the editing dialogue box, users can change the font for the text. In the Advanced tab, they can manipulate the location, aspect ratio and position of the text.
As a user makes changes, the changes will be reflected within the Preview pane. So, they will be able to view all changes in real-time.
Step 3: Changing the Color
To change the color of the text, go into the Color tab. Here, simply use the eye drop to select a new color from the color selector, which allows users to pick from shades of colors.
Step 4: Changing the Menus
More than likely, a user is going to want to make customized menus. This is done within the Menu button. When the Menu button opens, users will see a pane with all the buttons, menus and Navbar selections.
To add a button, scroll down to the Button header, and double-click underneath it. This will add a new button to the list. Name the button, and add the URL link and alternative text.
Users can also edit current menu options the same way. Just double-click on the option, and change the information. If an option needs to be deleted, simply select it, and press the Delete button. To change the order of the buttons, simply drag and drop them to a new location.
Users can also change the look of the menu within the Menu Properties. They can change the font, add borders/spaces or even make the font bold or italicized. Again, all changes will be shown within the Preview pane.
Step 5: Output Navbar
Once the user is done making changes to the Navbar, he simply needs to press the Save button, which is located in the lower left-hand corner. This will bring up the export box. Users can further manipulate the look of the Navbar in the Advanced features section.
To preview the Navbar, select Browser Preview. Or, users can just export it.
