Scenarist: Building Projects

Scenarist Publisher Studio is a system designed to help users build DVD projects. It simplifies the process of DVD production, shortening the path to a high-quality project by possessing a built-in logic which creates a script file. Also, a useful feature of the system is adaptability to various types of discs.

What You Need

  • Scenarist Publisher software – a Studio or Professional Edition
  • Sonic dongle to plug into a USB (Universal Serial Bus) port and the matching activation code
  • JTD file with the project

Step 1: Getting Started

After launching the program and entering the activation code, the Scenarist Publisher window will appear. Open the File menu and select New Project. In case you would like to edit an existing project, select Open Project.

Step 2: Opening a File

Select the appropriate form from the drop menu of the browser. Fill out the form that appears. Switch the data tabs Project, Menus and Video by clicking on each of them or by clicking the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of the form.

Step 3: Editing Project Assets

When a data field requires browsing, click the button on the right of the data field and select an asset using the window that appears. When needed, you can select several images by holding down Ctrl of your keyboard and keep on selecting until you are done. You can delete selected assets by clicking on the X button next to the data field.

Step 4: Saving Your Project

Open the File menu and choose Save Project or Save Project As. Enter a name and choose a destination directory – your file will be saved as a .PPJ (Publisher Project File).

Step 5: Finishing the Project

After you enter the information needed in all required fields, you can click the Finish button. It will not activate until you are done and have gone to the final data section. A browsing window appears again with a destination directory and a filename to be entered. The format of your file will be SCP (in order to be recognized by Sonic Scenarist). Also, a log file is saved in the same directory for you to check if any errors have occurred during the process.

If you are using the Professional Edition of the system, please read on.

Step 6: Changing the Options

Open the File menu and select Options. Now you can consider changing several options: modifying the default path to Scenarist Batch, modifying the default output paths for Mux, SCN and Plant Direct, and choosing to remove temporary folders and files when muxing is done.

Step 7: Launching the Mux Manager

The Professional Edition of Scenarist Publisher automatically checks the available space on the C: drive. Mux Manager launches automatically after saving the SCP file. The features the Mux Manager supports are: replacement of placeholders, files conversion to SCN format, DDP file sets with Plant Direct, disc images and more. In case the available space is less than the project's maximum possible size, you get an alert window.
