Red Giant Software: Using Warp
Warp is a toolset by Red Giant Software, allowing you to add reflection, corner point warps and shadow effects. When your video features a TV or computer screen and you would like to position a text or a photo inside it, you can do it easy using the Corner point warp plug-in.
Step 1: Bringing Text into the Scene
First, open the Effects menu, go to Video Generator, then Text Generator and select Text. Drag your text to the timeline, releasing the mouse button on the layer above the photo. Double click the text to preview it. It is not positioned well on the canvas, as the angle of the text needs to be matched with the angle of the screen in the scene.
Step 2: Positioning the Text with Red Giant Warp
Open the Effects menu again, go to Red Giant Warp, and select RG Corner Pin. Click on the Filters tab, where you see all the filter settings.
Click on the pin markers for each corner of the screen, starting from the upper left and finishing with the lower right point. Now you can modify the text's color, font, size and more by opening the Controls tab of the Viewer.
Step 3: Positioning a Photo
As the settings are done for pin corner, you can simply drag the filter onto the new object on the timeline. Add a transition by right-clicking on the edit point of the footage, and make it fade from the screen.
Step 4: Adding More Effects
Because the corner pin points can be set as keyframes, they can be animated. For instance, you can make a photo zoom out in the scene and fill up your screen. The second Warp plug-in allows you to add reflection to text or graphics.
Step 5: Choosing the Plug-In
Open the Effects menu first, go to Video Filters, choose Red Giant Warp and select RG Reflection.
Step 6: Adding Reflection to the Object
Go to Filters tab and choose on the base line start point. Click on the canvas where you want the reflection to start. Click on the end point and position it again on the canvas. Finally, adjust the reflection according to the object.
Step 7: Adding Effects to the Reflection
Drag the Fade slider to make the reflection fade out; you can also use the Softness slider to make the object look as if it is sitting on a glossy surface. Changing the color, the size or other properties of your objects is smartly followed by its reflection. Finally, you can create realistic 3D shadows of the objects you want to look more naturally.
Step 8: Choosing the Plug-In
Go to the Effects menu, then Red Giant Warp and select RG shadow
Step 9: Adding Shadow to the Object
With your Filters tab open, you see the 3D Transform Section filter. Select the start point of your shadow, and place it at the bottom left of your object. Then, select the end point, and set it at the bottom right of it.
Step 10: Adding Effects to the Shadow
Play with the Fade and Softness sliders to create additional shadow effects, depth and realism of your project.
