Easy VHS to DVD: Transferring Video from a Camcorder

Easy VHS to DVD is a computer program for Windows that allows users to easily transfer their video tapes to DVD with the supplied hardware. Putting home movies on DVD is a relatively new concept that wasn't possible years ago. The majority of home movies are on VHS tapes. These tapes deteriorate over time and are susceptible to physical damage. They can also only be played back on VCRs, which are increasingly disappearing off the market. Eventually, these captured moments are either going to disappear or will no longer be playable; therefore, the best way to preserve them is to transfer them to DVD.

Step 1: Connect Your VHS Play Back System to Your Computer

Roxio's USB capture device makes it easy to connect your VCR or old camcorder to your computer. The device has composite inputs for video and stereo audio, as well as an S-Video input. Plug your video playback system into the device and then connect it to your computer.

Step 2: Transferring the VHS

Once your video play back is hooked up to the computer, there are two options for transferring your videos to DVD. You can either record the video directly onto a DVD as is, or you can save it to your computer's hard drive to edit later. Please note that both options require hard drive space for storing the video.

Step 3: Creating Menus

Once your VHS is transferred and ready to be turned into a DVD, you can create customized menus with chapter selections.

Step 4: Burning the DVD

Once everything is in place, it's time to burn your DVD. Once that is complete, you can rest assured knowing that your memories are preserved.
