Converting File Formats with Procoder 3
Procoder 3 is the third installment in a series of a very successful and market-dominating product line by Grass Valley for converting file formats. Procoder 3 provides a slew of media conversion options that may be a bit overwhelming for a novice. The following outlines the process of converting file formats using Procoder 3.
Step 1: Launch Procoder 3 and Add Source File
Assuming that you are working on a Windows PC, you will need to select the Procoder 3 application shortcut from the programs menu to launch the software. Once the software suite loads, you will add the file to be converted to a different format of your choice. You will click on the “Add” button located next to the “Source List” and use the file browser to navigate to the desired file. Click on the file and select “Open”. Once this is completed, Procoder 3 will import the file and it will be listed in the “Source List”. You will also find that the complete property listing for the file has been generated.
Step 2: Select the Target File Format
You will then click on the “Target” button in the left pane. This will show the “Target List”. Following this, you will click on “Add” button next to the “Target List” and select a suitable target preset. This is the final file format that you want your original file format to convert to. You will click “OK” and find that the source property listing has been generated on the right hand side. You can now select the target file destination (folder where the converted file will be placed). It is advisable that you leave other settings as default.
Step 3: Convert the File
You can now begin with file format conversion. Use the convert button on the left pane to bring up the converter screen. You will click the “Convert” button to start the conversion process and wait until the progress bar indicates the termination of the process. Additionally, you can press the “Stop” button at any given time and you will get the converted file output till that point. The status bar will show “Conversion Finished” once the process is completed.
Step 4: Verify the Conversion Process
You can now close the Procoder 3 software suite by clicking on the “Cross” button in the top right hand corner. If prompted to “Save the project”, click “No”, unless you want to use the same source file and convert it to other file formats at a later stage. If needed, you can browse to a suitable location and save the project to be reused later. You will now close the software suite and navigate to the location specified for target file destination in step 2. You should see a file bearing the name of the source file but with a different file extension (the one you chose from the target presets). The file is now converted to the target format. Double click the file to play it in a media player of your choice.
