Compressing a WMV File in 6 Steps
A WMV File stands for Windows Media Video. This is a popular video format which was developed by Microsoft. This contains both the video and audio track in one file. These files can be played back in Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or many other applications. WMV is a compressed format, however, it is possible to make the file sizes even smaller with six simple steps.
Step 1: Choosing Software
First, you need to choose the software that you want to use to compress your WMV file. There are freeware or paid software which can be used.
Step 2: Running the Software
When you have chosen the software, you should install it and then run it. Wait for the application to finish loading before you attempt to use it.
Step 3: Selecting the File
Depending on the application you are using, the process will differ. You should select the WMV file that you want to compress.
Step 4: Quality
Now set the compression quality by adjusting it in the settings. You can see how the size of the file will affect the quality of the video.
Step 5: Outputting
The application will convert and compress your WMV file. Choose a directory on your computer where you want to store these files. This is normally set as the "Output Folder". If this doesn't already exist, then you will need to create it.
Step 6: Converting
With all of the settings entered correctly, you should then click the "Convert" button. This will automatically generate the new compressed WMV file.
It's possible to watch through the video to decide whether or not the quality is good enough.
