Digital Camera Repair: How to Replace Camera Bayonet Cup

Camera bayonet mounts speed up the process of changing lenses. Most cameras use screw mounts to hold the lenses in place. However, this is time consuming and can be difficult in some situations. A bayonet cup works in the same way as a bayonet light bulb. The lens is pushed into position and then rotated to lock it in place.

A bayonet mount can become damaged for a number of reasons, which will make replacing it a must. Fortunately, replacing a bayonet cup is fairly easy. Follow the steps below to find out just how easy this can be.

Step 1: Choosing a Replacement Bayonet Cup

Few cameras support bayonet style lenses as standard. This means that an adapter ring is used. Choose an adapter bayonet cup, which is the right thread and size for your camera. Also, check that it will suit the lenses you are interested in buying.

Step 2: Removing the Bayonet Cup

Next, you need to remove the bayonet cup from your camera by unscrewing it. This should be fairly easy, as long as it wasn't overtightened when it was fitted.

Step 3: Replacing the Bayonet Cup

Next, the bayonet cup will need to be replaced. Check that this is the right thread again to ensure that you won't cross the thread. Carefully screw the bayonet cup in position, but be careful not to over tighten it.
