5 Outdoor Self Portrait Ideas
When taking a self portrait, you might think that your options are limited. However, there are actually many different things that you can do to make the most out of the photograph. Taking the photo from a different angle, for example, can completely change the look of the photo and make it much more interesting for anyone to look at.
Taking a self portrait outdoors is a great and very interesting idea. This will allow you many more options other than just a head shot. It's possible to use a much more interesting background, which will make more people want to look at your image.
If you want to take a self portrait outdoors, then you have lots of different backgrounds which you can use. You can either stand in front of a colored wall if you want. Alternatively, you could take the photo against a house or woodland.
Almost all self portraits are taken head on and at eye level. However, you can capture some great photos if you mess around with this. Instead of just doing the normal thing, you could change the angle that you shoot the photo from. If you position the camera higher looking down on yourself, then this could create an unique and interesting look. Another option would be to position the camera so that it is low down and looking up at you when taking the photo.
3. Doing Something Different
Almost every self portrait is done when the person is standing still. This doesn't have to be the way. There are lots of different things that you can do outdoors to create a more amusing self portrait. You could jump in the air and time the camera to take a photo while you are in the air. Another option would be to climb a tree or lie down in the grass.
Sometimes doing something different in the photo will make it look much more interesting and unique. Try doing something that you really enjoy doing. If you're a golf lover, for example, try to time your self portrait so that you take a photo of yourself during the mid swing.
4. Eye Contact
While most self portraits are where you hold eye contact with the camera, this isn't the only thing you can do. Actually, you could try looking at something else out of frame. This creates a unique and interesting photo.
Another option is to look at something in the frame itself. This is another great way to add interest to a photo. You could be holding a ball or something you are interested in and look at that instead of the camera.
5. Rule of Thirds
While there are many photography rules, such as the Rule of Thirds, you don't really need to stick to these if you don't want to. You do not need to position yourself in the middle of the frame if you don't want to. You can get different results by positioning yourself differently in the photo. Standing at the left of the frame is a great way to make your photograph look much more unique.
