When to Use a Tripod in Fashion Photography
Sometimes in fashion photography, it can be tricky to get that perfect shot. It may be a good idea to use a tripod in order to stabilize the camera.
Keep it Handy
The best advice that can be provided in regards to tripods would be to keep it on you at all times. Keep it in the car if you are going on location to a shoot. You never know when you will want to take a difficult shot. If you do not have the tripod with you; it may be near impossible to get the quality photo that you would have gotten if you had packed the tripod. The one time you do not bring it with you may be the time that you need it the most.
Lower light levels mean a longer exposure. Avoiding a "shaky camera" is more important in low light conditions. If you are shooting an intense scene with the lights turned down very low, a tripod may help you stabilize your shot and avoid a blurry picture.
Perhaps you are standing on an unstable surface and feel very unbalanced. If this is the case, a tripod is a necessity. Not only will it help reduce a blurry image, it will allow you to stabilize yourself, preventing you and the entire scene to topple over with you.
You need to take a good look at your own ability. If you are nervous at a shoot or have had too much caffeine, the slightest shake of your hand could ruin an image. It is alright to simply declare that you do not feel comfortable shooting a scene with the camera in your hand. The model will not know the difference. If anyone does recognize your need of a tripod, they will appreciate your willingness to put the photo shoot before your pride.
If you are hurrying through a photo shoot, you will not get quality pictures. Using a tripod forces you to slow down and angle the camera just right in order to get the proper shot. Keeping this tip in mind, if you are rushing through a photo shoot due to time constraints, the tripod may not be the best idea.
If you are on unstable land or rushing water, it is not a good idea to use a tripod. You may fall over and lose all of your precious photography equipment. Actually, it is not a good idea to shoot photographs in any type of dangerous situation. No matter what the pay may be for these action shots, the risks far outweigh the benefits. You do not want to lose thousands of dollars in equipment for one great shot.
Look Over Your Camera
Most of the newest cameras today have an amazingly fast shutter speed. As a result, the blurriness in photos has been dramatically decreased. If you have an older camera that does not have a quick shutter speed, having a tripod may be a good investment for your business.
