Xara Designer: Line Editing with the Free Hand Tool

The free hand tool is normally used to draw, and this article will show you how to use various techniques to edit lines.

Erasing

If you have made an error when drawing a line, the easiest way to erase this is by pressing the Shift button on the keyboard. This will allow the pencil to change to an eraser. You will therefore be able to erase the error that you made.

Adjusting Accuracy and Smoothness

To adjust accuracy and smoothness, move the smooth control slider that is situated on the information bar.

Redrawing

To redraw, the first thing that you need to do is to select the shape that you want, then move over to the edge of the selected shape and draw. The new line drawn on the edge will replace the old line.

Drawing Straight Lines

If you would like to draw straight lines, press on the control and alt key down on the keyboard.

Appending Lines

To append the lines, click on the line that you want and drag it from one end to the other. If you want to join two separate lines, then you will need to select them both before you start drawing between them. Once you have done this, then you will be able to join the two lines so that it becomes a single line.
