Using the Makeover Studio

The Makeover Studio feature of the Serif PhotoPlus X3 is a quick editor that gets the job done. It has a pretty easy to use and straightforward system to get you around the software suite. The software also features the ability to provide a makeover to subjects in an image.

Step 1: Opening the Makeover Studio

You will use the how-to tab on the left hand side and click on the “Makeover Studio” option. You will see that the makeover studio is an intuitive application that automatically provides wide arrays of portrait fixing tools that can be used for:

  • removal of redeye
  • teeth whitening
  • blemish removal
  • dark circle removal
  • skin smoothening
  • removal of hotspots
  • slimming down

You can click any of the options to proceed further. Each option includes the creation of an additional layer to incorporate the effects. This process can be automated by clicking on “Do this for me”. This will create an appropriately named background layer for you to continue the relevant correctional operations.

Step 2: Red Eye Correction

You will launch the tool either from the how-to tab or from the toolbar on the left hand side of the screen, and proceed to click on the subject’s eyes. This should automatically fix the redeye problem. But, this will be done in a different layer altogether. You may also choose to implement more than one correction to the same image.

Step 3: Removing Blemishes

Select a relevant photograph that features a subject with skin blemishes and select the blemish removal option from the how-to tab. You will be presented with three different options to remove the blemishes: blemish removal, patch tool and the clone tool. You will choose the blemish removal tool and then again choose the “Do this for me” option. This will create an appropriately named background layer for you to continue the relevant correctional operations.

You will launch the tool either from the how-to tab or from the toolbar on the left hand side of the screen, and proceed to click on the blemish. The mouse pointer will change and allow you to select a replacement area. You will choose a clear area on the subject’s face or exposed skin. The clear skin will replace the blemished area. You can also turn the appropriate layers on and off to see the difference between the pre and postfix.

Step 4: Removing Dark Circles

To remove a subject’s dark circles, you will select the dark circle removal option from the how-to tab. You will now select method number 1 called paintbrushes and choose the “Do this for me” option. This will create an appropriately named background layer for you to continue the relevant correctional operations. You will now click on the image to select the dark circles and then click on a new area to select the replacement for the under eye skin color. This will remove the dark circles from the subject’s face.
