The 6 Text Generators Available in Final Cut Pro

When using Final Cut Pro, you can use text generators to create title and credit clips. There are 6 different text generators available in Final Cut Pro and each one gives you a different result. After you have applied a text generator to a clip, that clip must be rendered immediately.

1. Crawl Text Generator

The crawl text generator will create a single line of text that moves horizontally across the screen. When using the crawl text generator, you will be able to enter the text that you wish to animate into the text entry field. By using the Spacing slider, you can adjust how much space is between the words in your text. You can also use the Direction pop-up menu to select in which direction your text will move.

2. Lower 3rd Text Generator

The lower 3rd text generator will create text that appears in the lower third portion of the screen. This text generator will take your text and turn it into two independent lines. The lower 3rd text generator does not allow carriage returns. You may want to use the lower 3rd text generator when you need text to point to a specific person or location.

3. Outline Text Generator

The outline text generator creates static text that has an outline. Unlike the crawl and lower 3rd text generator, the outline text generator does allow carriage returns. Instead of having your text appear as a solid color, when you use the outline text generator, you will be able to outline the text with an image or fill the text. Once you have decided how to outline the text, you can adjust the color, opacity, softness and size of the text and background.

4. Scrolling Text Generator

The scrolling text generator will create text that scrolls up the screen. This is the text generator that you want to use when creating the credits clip for your project. The scrolling text generator does allow carriage returns. If you do not want your text to be centered on the screen, you can use the Indent slider to left align or right align your scrolling text.

5. Text Generator

The text generator is a basic generator that creates a static element of text. This text generator does allow carriage returns. When using the text generator, you can edit the text using a wide variety of settings, including color, alignment, font, style and size. You can control the layout of the text that was created with the text generator, as well.

6. Typewriter Text Generator

The final text generator that is available in Final Cut Pro is the typewriter text generator. This text generator will force your created text to appear on the screen as if it were being typed in real time. With the typewriter text generator, your text will appear one character at a time. This text generator does allow carriage returns. You can use the location slider to dictate where the text will appear in the frame.
