Pinnacle Studio: How To Work with the Effects List

Pinnacle Studio comes preloaded with many effects. You can apply these effects to video or image clips in your movie project. If you apply more than one effect to a single clip, the effects will be applied in the order that they are listed in the Video effects tool. The Video effects tool, which contains the effects list, can be accessed through the Video toolbox. You can only access the Video toolbox when you have the Movie Window opened in Edit mode. This guideline will go over the basic functions of the effects list, such as adding effects, removing effects, and changing the order of effects.

How to Add an Effect

In order to add an effect, you must have a video or image clip selected. With the clip selected, click the Add new effect button. When you click on the Add new effect button, Pinnacle Studio will automatically launch the effects browser. The effects browser will be opened on the right hand side of the tool window.

The effects are sorted by category in the effects browser. To view the effects that are within a specific category, simply click on the name of the category. Once you have located the effect that you wish to apply to the selected clip, select the effect and click the OK button. Pinnacle Studio will automatically add the effect to the clip.

How to Remove an Effect

To remove an effect from a clip, you must have the clip that contains the effect selected. With the clip selected, click the delete effect button. The delete effect button is represented by a trashcan in the effects list.

Changing the Order of Effects

As previously mentioned, the effects are applied to a clip in the order that they appear in the Video effects tool. However, you can easily use the effects list to change the order of the applied effects. To change the order of the effects, you must have the clip that contains the effects selected. With the clip selected, use the up and down arrows within the effects list to change the order of the applied effects.

Copying and Pasting Effects

It can be time consuming to apply effects to individual clips, so Pinnacle Studio allows you to copy and paste effects from one clip to another. To do this, right click on the clip that contains the effects and select Copy All Effects. To paste the copied effects, right click on a different clip and select Paste.

Premium Video and Audio Effects

You will notice that there are many premium video and audio effects in the effects list. You are free to use any of the premium video and audio effects. However, the premium video and audio effects will cause a watermark graphic to be added to your video during playback. To remove the watermark graphic, you need to purchase an activation key from Pinnacle Studio. For more information on purchasing activation keys, go to Help and select Purchase activation keys.
