Pinnacle Studio: How To Clip-Trim

Pinnacle Studio gives you a couple of different options for trimming clips. You can trim clips directly on the Timeline by using handles or you can use the Clip properties tool to trim clips. The Clip properties tool itself gives you a couple of different options for trimming clips. This guideline will go over how to use the options in the Clip properties tool to trim clips. In most cases, you can trim clips faster and easier by using the Clip properties tool.

Accessing the Clip Properties Tool

In order to access the Clip properties tool, you must have a clip selected in the Movie Window. With the clip selected, go to the Toolbox and select Modify Clip Properties. You can also open the Clip properties tool by double clicking any clip in the Movie Window, except for the title clip.

Setting Trims Points in the Clip Properties Tool by Using Brackets

One way to trim clips in the Clip properties tool is to set trim points. To set trim points in the Clip properties tool, you will need to use the left and right brackets. The left bracket button is located beside the counter in the left preview area. The right bracket button is located beside the counter in the right preview area. To use the brackets to set trim points, all you have to do is drag the brackets to a new position and click OK in the Clip properties tool.

Using the Counter to Set Trim Points in the Clip Properties Tool

You can also use the counter to set trim points in the Clip properties tool. The counter is located above the transport controls in the Clip properties tool. By clicking on the counter, you are able to enter a numeric value directly into the counter. You can also use the jog buttons to adjust the number in the counter field. When you use the counter to set trim points in the Clip properties tool, any changes that you make will be applied to the in point of the clip. The in point of the clip is represented by the left bracket.

Using the Duration Text Field to Trim Clips

The duration text field is located towards the top right of the Clip properties tool. Directly to the left of the duration text field is the name field. When you use the duration text field to trim clips in the Clip properties tool, any changes that you make will be applied to the out point of the clip. The out point of the clip is represented by the right bracket.

By clicking on the duration text field, you are able to enter a new numeric value into the field. You can also adjust the duration text field by using the associated jog buttons. The duration of the clip you are trimming may not be reduced to less than one frame.
