Paint Shop Pro Tutorial: Using the Paint Brush to Enhance Photos
Corel Paint Shop Pro offers a number of tools that can be used to enhance photos. Different features allow you to change the color and texture of digital or scanned pictures, adjust the brightness, crop and much more. Mastering all of these tools is important if you want to improve the look and professionalism of your photos.
Step 1 - Crop Your Photo
The first thing to do is get rid of any parts of your photo that you don't need by using the crop tool. The crop tool can be used to cut out a section of your photo and getting rid of anything around the border. To use the crop tool, first select it and then drag out a rectangle over your photo. Double click inside the box to crop the image.
By cropping your photo now, you will avoid wasting time repairing damage to bits of the photo which won't even be seen anyway.
Step 2 - Resize the Photo
You can adjust the size of your photo if needed, to do this click on Image, and then choose Canvas Size. This will open a dialog box where you can enter details to re-size a photo. Make sure that the maintain aspect ratio box is ticked as this will stop your photo getting squashed or stretched. Resizing the photo will make the file size smaller, this is ideal if you are intending on uploading these files on the Internet.
Resizing your photos is optional and you don't have to do it now if
you don't want to. If you want to have an internet optimized picture
later then you can do this step at a later date.
Step 3 - Auto Adjust
Before doing any touching up with brushes, it's a good idea to improve the clarity of the photo by using the brightness/contrast adjuster. Adjust the strength and click on OK to see what the image will look like. You can always undo the changes if you don't like them.
The Paint Shop Pro auto adjust function should make it possible to automatically enhance your image. These filters concentrate on color levels and brightness.
Step 4 - Retouch
You can now retouch the areas of the photo which need adjusting by
using brushes. Use the small scratch removal tool to remove not only
scratches but also blemishes and marks from the photo. Red eyes can be
corrected using the red eye removal paint brush.
Scratch removal is a great little tool to use and can be used to remove spots and marks on skin and many other surfaces. This can be found in the toolbox and is used exactly the same as a normal paintbrush.
Step 5 - Save Your Image
Once you've finished enhancing your photo you then need to save it. It's a good idea to save the image as a new file so that you don't overwrite your existing image. This will make it possible to edit your original image should you ever want to again.Popular P&S Cameras for High Quality Photos:
