How to Use the Paint Shop Pro Toothbrush to Enhance Teeth in Photos

Teeth photos can easily be enhanced with the toothbrush tool in paint shop pro. You can make anyone's teeth look whiter and brighter. With the right kind of knowledge about this tool, you will be able to naturally whiten teeth in a matter of seconds. Below are the steps you will need to become familiar with in order to become good at enhancing teeth in a photograph.

Step 1: Choosing a Photo

When you are just starting out, it is a good idea to get a photograph that will be easy to alter. In this case, a closer image of a face with a good teeth bearing grin will be a good starting point. Be sure that you will be able to get a good zoomed in look at the teeth. Once you have become better acquainted with this effect, you will be able to go on to more challenging photos.

Step 2: Teeth Selection

Once you have selected the appropriate image and have opened into your paint shop pro tutorial, then you will be ready to begin work on it. You will want to begin by selecting the teeth in the photo. In order to do this, you will need to go to the 'lasso tool'. This tool is located on the left hand side of the screen in the tool bar. Once you have selected this, you will need to set the different options in the new lasso tool bar. Choose the 'freehand' tool options. You'll want to change the selection type to 'point to point'.

Step 3: Zoom

Zoom in onto the teeth. This way you will be able to get just the teeth and nothing else. You will do this by choosing the 'zoom tool' in the tool bar. After you have done this, simply click on the image and move it as needed until the teeth are completely zoomed in.

Once you are comfortably zoomed in, click around the teeth and be sure to finish right where you started. You will see a moving line that is usually referred to as 'marching ants' around the teeth. Keep in mind that if there are gaps or spaces in the teeth, then you will benefit by doing them one at a time.

Step 4: Alpha Channel

This selection is going to need to be saved into the 'alpha channel'. In order to do this you will need to click on the 'selections' option on the top of the screen. In the 'selections' drop box, you will see an option to 'save to alpha channel', choose this to get your image saved to the alpha window. Once you have clicked 'ok,' then a new window will open and you will be given the opportunity to name this channel. Once you have named it, click on 'ok'.

Step 5: Teeth Whitening

In order to lighten the teeth, you will need to go to the tool bar and click on the 'layers' drop box and pick 'new adjustment layer,' From there, you will go to 'hue/saturation/lightness'. After you have selected this, the dialog box will open for it. Play around with these settings until you get the desired look.

After you have gotten the desired whitening effect on the teeth, you will click 'ok' and merge together to two layers (or flatten your image).
