How to Edit YouTube Videos in Adobe Premiere

If you are looking for a way to edit YouTube videos that you have made, you might find this more difficult than uploading one in the first place. The YouTube video uses a format called FLV, which makes it slightly less adaptable to editing, so you have to work a lot harder to get your editing done. One way to manage this is to transport it to the Adobe Premiere editing suite. Moving your YouTube video so that you can edit it is a job worth doing, if you want to enjoy your YouTube videos for years to come.

Materials Needed

  • Computer
  • Adobe Premier Editing Suite
  • Youtube Video
  • FLV Importer

Step 1: Taking Your FLV and Making It Editable

One of the biggest problems with editing YouTube videos is that the high compression of the FLV makes it difficult to edit in a normal video software package. One way around this is to use the FLV importer plug in, which serves as a translator between the FLV and the Adobe software program. In order to move the tubes into Adobe, you will need to install this plug in onto your computer. Once this is downloaded, you can open up the file tab on your Adobe software, and click the import button. If you do not want to do this, you can also just drag them along to the timeline panel for editing.

Step 2: Edit the Video

Once you have done this, you can move the program around in your windows, editing it as you go, until you have ironed out all the kinks and bumps. Keep the YouTube video together, or fix the clips so that they appear in a different section altogether. You can edit your video like you would any other kind of video, but you should keep in mind that the end result will be very highly compressed. You may decide to make a few different versions of the video, in which case you should save them under different titles, in order to avoid confusion when you come to upload the video at the end of the session.

Step 3: Export Your YouTube File

When you have finished editing your file, you can save it under a suitable title. Go to the File tab in the Adobe Premiere program, and click the button which says Save As. Once this has been done, you will be able to open up another project. When you have finished saving all the files that you want, you should open up the saved files, and click on the File tab again. This time, you will see an Export signal on your computer. Now, you can export the program in the same way as you imported it, through the plug in. Once this is done, your YouTube video will be converted back to high compression, and you will be able to upload it as you choose.
