How To Darken the Sky in a Photo in Viveza

Viveza is a well known photo editing package which can be installed alongside most other popular image editors, including Photoshop. Viveza makes editing photos much simpler than it normally is, as it's designed with both simplicity and convenience in mind.

One thing that you might want to do in Viveza is darken the sky. Learning how to darken the sky is actually very simple. Sometimes the photographs will have a very pale colored sky, which is close to white. Darkening the sky will make the sky much more obvious against the white paper. Take your time to master this technique so that you can make the most out of your photographs.

Tools and Materials Needed

  • Viveza
  • Landscape Photograph

Step 1: Load Your Photo

Start by opening your photo and launching Viveza so that you can start darkening the sky. If you don't have a suitable image already, then you should be able to find one on the Internet on one of the many stock market websites.

Step 2: Add a Control Point

Start by adding a control point to the sky by clicking the add control point button and then clicking on the sky. Make sure that you click on a blue part of the sky so that you can correctly set the control point. If you make a mistake and click somewhere wrong, then press Esc. to start again.

Step 3: Adjust Brightness and Contrast

The brightness and contrast can now be adjusted on the pop-up sliders that appear. Reduce the brightness and increase the contrast until the sky starts to look right. This might take some experimenting with, but it's something that you should take your time to do.

Step 4: Increase Sky Size

The top slider should be increased to the maximum point; the top slider is the size of the control point and this should cover the whole sky. Gradually increase the size of the sky checking to see what it looks like.

Step 5: Duplicate Control Points

Quite often you will discover that the first control point won't cover the entire sky. If this is the case, then you simply need to duplicate the control point to another section of the sky. To do this, hold down the Alt key and click and drag the control point to another section of the sky. Alternatively you can click the control point and then select Duplicate Control Point in the Control Point List.

Step 6: Add a Control Point

Another control point needs to be added to the foreground of the image. To do this, click on the Add button and click on Add Control Point. This control point will prevent the foreground being darkened by the effects on the sky.

Now that you've finished the project, you should save the image as a new filename so that you still have access to your original image. If you're not completely happy with it, then just start over from the beginning. Viveza makes editing photos very simple, however, you need to become familiar with the program.
