Final Cut Pro: Moving and Modifying Markers
Final Cut Pro allows users to move and modify markers. There are various ways to move a marker, including dragging it, repositioning the playhead, and entering a different starting timecode value. After a marker has been created, Final Cut Pro allows the user to modify the marker by renaming it, adding information to the comment field, and changing the marker type or color. The guideline below will go over the methods that can be used to move and modify markers.
A marker can be easily moved by dragging it. To do this, all you have to do is open the Viewer, Canvas, or Timeline ruler. You will then be able to command drag the marker to the left or right.
To move the marker by repositioning the playhead, you need to open the Viewer or Timeline ruler. From there, you will be able to position the playhead to the new location of the marker. From the menu, go to Mark, then Markers, then Reposition, or you can press Shift-Grave Accent. The downside to moving the marker by repositioning the playhead is that Final Cut Pro only allows you to move the marker forward.
In order to move a marker in a clip by entering a different starting timecode, you will need to open either the Viewer, Canvas, or Timeline ruler. While holding down the Command key, double click on the marker that you wish to move. You will then need to move the playhead to the marker that you have double clicked. From the menu, go to Mark, then Markers, then Edit and press the M key. After that is done, press the Add Marker button and then press Command, then Option, then M to edit the nearest marker to the left. The Edit Marker menu will appear on your screen. From that menu, you will be able to enter a new start time.
To move a marker in a sequence by entering a different starting timecode, you will need to hold down the Command key and double click on the marker that you wish to move while you have either the Viewer, Canvas, or Timeline ruler open. You will then go to the menu and go to Mark, then Markers, then Edit, press M, and then click the Add Marker button. The Edit Marker menu will appear on your screen. From that menu, you will be able to enter a new start time.
Before you can modify a marker, you will need to open the Edit Marker menu. Directions on how to open the Edit Marker menu cab be found above.
The top field of the Edit Marker menu will be the Name field. You can use this field to rename the marker. Below that will be the Comment field. That field can be used to add to or edit the information that was entered when the marker was created. After that you will see the Start and Duration fields that were used to move the marker by entering a different starting time code. You will then a list of Color buttons.
