Creating Spirals in Corel Draw

Corel Draw is very popular vector software which is used by designers and artists all over the world. The software includes a variety of tools to enhance its drawing capabilities and for artists to draw various shapes easily. One of them is the Spiral Tool, which enables you to make different types of spirals with just a few clicks. Here's how:

Step 1: Select the Spiral Tool

The Spiral Tool is available in the basic toolbox menu on the left side of your screen. The icon is a spiral, but sometimes you might see a Graph or a Polygon. In such a case, you will see a triangle in the right bottom corner of the icon which you need to click, and then select the spiral icon from the fly-out which appears.

Step 2: Select the Properties of the Spiral

When you click on the Spiral Tool, you will find a Property bar opening above the drawing workspace. In this bar, you will find two more icons of a spiral. One looks symmetric, choosing which, you will be able to draw a symmetrical spiral with equal spacing between the whirls. The other icon is for drawing a Logarithmic spiral, which means you can increase or decrease the space between the revolutions in a systematic manner. There is also a box with numeric value, which lets you control the number of revolutions in the two types of spirals.

Alternatively, all the above properties can be chosen by right clicking the Spiral Tool. This will open a dialogue box, and you can make the required adjustments to the values. This is helpful when you are going to create the same type of spirals many times.

Step 3: Draw the Spiral

After you have chosen the properties, you can start drawing by holding down the "Ctrl" key and dragging the mouse to create the circular shape. If you want to draw the spiral starting from the center, hold down the "Shift" key.
