Creating a Drop Shadow in Xara Xtreme
A drop shadow or a “wall” shadow effect, applied to an object or a text, is largely used in photo editing, web design and animation. In general, it does not matter if it comes to an image, an item or a photo appearing on a web page, the drop shadow is used to create the impression that the given image or item is raised above the background.
With Xara Xtreme, you can create different types of shadow effects in a few easy steps. Read on for instructions on how to start with the basic drop shadow effect.
Step 1: Getting Started
Open a New document and create or import the item you would like to apply the drop shadow effect to. Import images by dragging and dropping them from the File explorer or create shapes by using the built-in tools, such as Rectangular or Circular.
Step 2: Creating a Shadow
Select the Shadow tool, then select your shape and choose the type of shadow you wish to apply to it from the shadows info bar. Click on your image, then drag your mouse and release when the desired shadow is ready.
Step 3: Adjusting the Shadow
Play with the shadow's properties, such as position, size, blur and transparency to achieve the effect you are looking for.
Step 4: Adding More Realism
A method to increase your shadow's realistic appearance is choosing a darker, instead of a gray color, and then playing with its transparency and blur.
