A List of the Final Cut Pro Keyboard Shortcuts

Below is a list of some of the Final Cut Pro keyboard shortcuts. These shortcuts should work regardless of what version of Final Cut Pro you have. The majority of the shortcuts require that you use the Command key. This is the key on your Mac keyboard that has the little apple on the left side of it. You may want to print this list out so that you always have it for easy access when editing videos in Final Cut Pro.

General Interface Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Command + O: Open a file.
  • Command + Shift + N: Create a new project
  • Command + N: Create a new sequence
  • Command + S: Save the project
  • Command + Option + S: Save all projects
  • Command + Z: Undo the last command
  • Command + Shift + Z: Redo the last command
  • Command + A: Select all
  • Command + Shift + A: Deselect all
  • Command + C: Copy the selected item
  • Command + X: Cut the selected item
  • Shift + V: Paste the copied item
  • Option + D: Duplicate the selected item
  • Control + M: Print to video
  • Option + Q: Open the User Preferences window
  • Command + 1: Open the Viewer window
  • Command + 2: Open the Canvas window
  • Command + 3: Open the Timeline window
  • Command + 4: Open the Browser window
  • Command + Shift + E: Open the Share window

Layout Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Option + J: Open the Button List window
  • Option + H: Open the Keyboard Layout window
  • Option + 6: Open the Audio Mixer
  • Option + 7: Open the Frame Viewer
  • Option + 8: Open the Quick View tab
  • Option + 9: Open the Video Scopes tab
  • Option + 0: Open the Voice Over tool

Navigation Keyboard Shortcuts

  • J: Rewind
  • K; Stop playback
  • L; Play forward at 100 speed
  • K + L: Play forward in slow motion
  • J + K: Play reverse in slow motion
  • Control + 6: Go back two edits
  • Control + 9: Go forward two edits
  • Shift + I: Go to the In point
  • Shift + K: Go to the next keyframe
  • Shift + O: Go to the Out point
  • Option + K: Go to the previous keyframe
  • Control + L: Loop playback
  • Shift + Space Bar: Play in reverse 100 speed
  • Shift + P: Play to the Out point

Timeline Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Option + =: Zoom in
  • Option + -: Zoom out
  • Command + Option + T: Add an audio transition
  • Control + V: Add an edit point
  • Command + T: Add a video transition
  • Option + I: Clear the In point
  • Option + O:  Clear the Out point
  • Option + X: Clea the In and Out points
  • Shift + Z: Fit the sequence to window
  • Home: Go to the beginning of the video
  • End: Go to the end of the video
  • Shift + E: Go to the next edit point
  • Option + E: Go to the previous edit point
  • Shift + F5: Lock all audio tracks
  • Shift + F4: Lock all video tracks
  • Command + Option + I: Mark the audio In point
  • Command + Option + O: Mark the audio Out point
  • I: Mark the In point
  • O: Mark the Out point
  • Control + I: Mark the video In point
  • Control + O: Mark the video Out point
