When You'll Require a High Speed Memory Card

Although Memory Cards are widely used nowadays in devices such as smartphones, portable music players or digital cameras, there are still times when you'll require a high speed Memory Card.

Use with Video Capture

With speeds ranging from 4x (600 Kb/s) to 133x (20 Mb/s), an average multimedia card of 40x speed, for example, can perform pretty well in almost any device. However, there is one field where a high speed multimedia card is required: video capture. In every video captured, the frame is quite small, but because most cameras average from 15 frames per second (fps) to 30 fps, the data amount needed to be stored in every second is quite large.

Taking into account the sound of the clip, you'll end up with about 10 Mb of information that must be stored in every second. If a card has a lower writing speed than required, the camera will use its internal memory as a buffer, but when that fills up, the camera might slow down considerably, stop the recording, or capture your videos in poor quality.

Make sure you check the requirements of your camera before going to buy a high speed memory card, to be sure you make the right choice.
