Underwater Photography: Replacing Your Broken Underwater Strobe

An underwater strobe is an important tool to the underwater photographer. After all, it helps you overcome the poor lighting conditions that happen when water absorbs light. Since you need to get your underwater shots, when your underwater strobe breaks down, you have two options.

Should You Repair or Replace?

You can try to get it repaired or you can replace it. Getting a strobe repaired can be expensive. Because it is a delicate electronic that operates underwater, it is not wise to try doing it yourself. Odds are that you'll opt to replace it. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Think about why your old strobe broke. Was it because of lack of maintenance? Or was it because of some design flaw? Also, you should think about what you liked about your old strobe, as well as the faults it had. Learn from your past experiences and mistakes, so you don't repeat them. Find a strobe that has all the positive features you enjoyed in your old one without any of the negative drawbacks.

If the strobe broke down due to lack of maintenance, then consider this as a learning experience and never make that mistake again. Having to shell out a couple hundred bucks for a replacement is a big deal; try not to repeat it.
