Photoshop: Creating a Security Camera Footage Effect
A normal image can be converted to look as though it is security camera footage with photo editing software like Photoshop. Here is how you can create this effect.
Step 1: Open Image in Photoshop
Initialize Photoshop and open your image by clicking on File and selecting it.
Step 2: Add a Filter
Click on Filter from the menu bar, and go to Noise and select Add noise. Move the slider control so that the Amount shows 20%.
Step 3: Reduce the Color Saturation
Press Ctrl+U to open the Hue/Saturation window and move the Saturation slider to the left so that the value is -75. Click OK.
Step 4: Adjust Color Balance
Press Ctrl+B and select Midtones under Tone Balance. Move the Cyan/Red slider to the left and bring the value to -10. Move the Yellow/Blue slider to the right so that the value is +10.
Step 5: Make a Border
Click on the Marquee tool and select the main part of the image, leaving out only a thin strip around the edges. Then, click on Select, choose Feather and set the value at 15px. Then, select Border and set the value at 2px. Now you should have a white rectangular outline inside your image with rounded corners. Click on the Eraser tool, and erase the rectangle so that only the rounded corners are left.
Step 6: Add Text
Adding text like the words "Rec" and the date and time at the corners will give it more effect of security camera footage. Then, lower the Opacity to about 90, and you are done.
