Making a Metal Picture Frame at Home
Making a metal picture frame is a great way to display your photos in an affordable way. Many metal photo frames are expensive. However, it's possible to save money by making your very own.
A photo frame can be made easily using salvaged tin. It's also very easy to shape it into the required form to make a nice picture frame.
Step 1: Finding Supplies
The first thing that you need to do is find a piece of metal. A useful way to find tin is buying an old ceiling tile. Take a look for these on auction sites and antique shops. You might also be lucky to look at car boot sales.
Step 2: Marking the Frame
Use a piece of chalk to mark out the shape of your photo. Then, draw another box around this to make a border. Cross out the center to show that this will be cut out.
Step 3: Cutting the Metal
Tin is a thin piece of metal which makes it easy to cut. A pair of tin snips are one of the easiest ways of cutting out the metal.
Step 4: Finding Glass
The next step is to choose a piece of glass which will fit your frame. This could be the most difficult part of the process. The easiest way to do this is normally to buy a similar photo frame.
Step 5: Assembly
Assemble the frame by putting self adhesive tape around the opening of the frame. Then, stick the glass to the frame. The photo can be stuck to the glass using more tape.
