Making a C Stand for 30 Dollars
Knowing how to create a C stand on your own is useful if you are an avid photographer. C stands--also known as century stands--are used in photo studios or by amateur photographers because they can lift lights and support backdrops or reflectors. You can create your own C stand for $30, since you can use common plumbing parts that you might have at home (or that you can buy at a local hardware store for a fraction of cost). Here is how you can create your own C stand for $30 in a few easy steps.
What You'll Need
- 18 thread Thumb Screw
- 3/4 inches x 48 inches nipple pipe
- 1/2 inches x 48 inches EMT Conduit
- nipple pipes: a 1/4, a 1/2 a 3/4
- 90 degree elbow
- bell coupling of ½ and ¾
- wrench, drill and saw
Step 1: Assemble the Legs
The first thing you need to do is assemble the legs. Starting from the bottom and up is always recommended because you will have a better idea of your project this way. You need to use the 90 degree elbow and attach on it the ¾ nibble pipe. Use the wrench to ensure tight fit. Use a 45 degree elbow at the other end of the nibble pipe and connect the 45 degree street elbow. Repeat for all 3 legs.
Step 2: Create the Bottom End
Once done with the legs, you need to assemble the bottom end part that connects the three legs. Connect a ¾ nibble pipe with the ¾ bell coupling and the ½ nibble pipe.
Step 3: Attach a Telescopic Joint
Here you have two options. You can either buy a metal joint from the hardware store and install it using the drill and wrench (to connect it with the bottom end stick), or you can create your own using a black pipe and a ½ nibble. In any case, you will need to drill it to install it.
