How to Use a Tripod Collar on a Lens

If you have a camera with a very heavy lens, making it nose-heavy, then you may find that a tripod collar will help you to stabilize the device while you take a shot. Tripod collars help to spread the load of a heavy camera away from the lens, so you are less likely to find it falling forward when you are taking a picture. A tripod collar will help to support the tripod and help keep your camera steady.

Materials Needed

  • Tripod Collar
  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Screwdriver

Step 1: Remove the Camera

Once you have the tripod collar, unscrew the camera from the tripod. You should then fit the tripod collar onto the front of the camera lens, and tighten it so that it is secure.

Step 2: Fit the Collar

Next, take the bottom of the collar, and fit the hole over the camera plate, so that it will be held in position when you tighten the camera onto the tripod. Make sure that it is tight before you add the tripod.

Step 3: Install onto the Tripod

Place the camera plate onto the column, and tighten as usual. You should now have a tripod collar which will fit firmly over the lens.
