Attaching a Camera to a Steadicam Archer
The Steadicam Archer is capable of holding cameras that weigh 12 to 50 pounds. Before you attach your camera to the Steadicam Archer, all accessories that you plan on using should be attached to the camera. You will need to know where your camera's side to side c.g. and fore-aft c.g. are before you can attach your camera to a Steadicam Archer.
1. Attach the Dovetail Plate
The dovetail plate is attached to the bottom of your camera. The dovetail plate should be placed as close to the bottom of your camera's c.g. as possible. To keep your camera from rotating, use two screws to attach the dovetail plate to your camera.
2. Place Your Camera on the Mounting Platform
Once the dovetail plate is attached to your camera, place your camera above the mounting platform on the Steadicam Archer. The locking lever on the dovetail plate should be completely open while you are doing this. To attach the camera to the mounting platform, first lower the left edge of the dovetail plate into the holder and then the right edge of the plate into the holder.
3. Lock the Dovetail Plate
Now that you have your camera sitting on the mounting platform, close the locking lever on the dovetail plate half of the way. You will need to slide your camera until its fore-aft c.g. is approximately .75 inches behind the center mark on the telescoping posts. With the camera lined up with the centerline of the telescoping posts, close the locking lever all of the way to attach your camera to the Steadicam Archer.
