Shooting a Movie Genre: Drama
When choosing the type of movie genre that you want to start filming, you will need to decide exactly how to create an unique and interesting story. If you want to create a drama movie, then there are certain things that you will need to bear in mind. Dramas are interesting, but can only work if the story is interesting and compelling. If the story is boring, then nobody will want to watch it.
The challenge with dramas is that you must make them interesting enough to watch in the first place. You will also need to find a way to encourage people to continue to watch and enjoy your film.
Step 1: Coming up with an IdeaThe first thing that you need to do before you can shoot a drama film
is come up with a good idea. It's important that you are unique and try
to avoid copying anyone else's idea. Sometimes, you can accidentally
copy ideas without realizing what you're doing. To reduce this, try to
avoid watching any drama shows on TV. Of course, you might find that
books and magazines provide inspiration.
You might also be able
to come up with a good idea by using real life as an inspiration. Try to
come up with some ideas by brainstorming and jotting them down on
paper. This might be the longest stage because it will take a long time
to develop and improve the ideas.
When you have the basic idea, you will then be able to build on it. The better everything fits together, the easier it will be to make it believable. You might find it easier to develop your ideas with the help of friends and family. These people will be able to help add many things that you might not be able to think of yourself.
Step 3: Writing the ScriptYou will now need to start writing the script. This is normally fairly easy, but you shouldn't get too worried if there are mistakes in it at first. The process of writing a script will involve a lot of writing, editing and revising. Try to make the script as realistic as possible. Although you will want to make your script as interesting as possible, you will want it to be believable.
Step 4: Designing CostumesWith a drama film, the costumes are very important. These will need to be designed so that the colors suit the set colors and all the other colors in the scene. They should also be designed with the period of history in mind. It's key that everything is authentic to the time period where you are filming from.
Step 5: FilmingWhen you are prepared, you will then need to start filming. With a drama film, the lighting is very important. You will need to cast enough light on the scene to allow it to film. However, you will also need to try to retain the theme that you are trying to achieve.
