How to Use Ultimatte with After Effects

Utlimatte AdvantEdge is a must-have software or advanced plugin if you want to composite images seamlessly and flawlessly, while maintaining the original clarity and the finer details of the image in the composite image. This plugin is one of the most sophisticated and advanced plugins available for Adobe After Effects, which is a compositing and digital motion graphics software. After Effects is widely used for post production operations for video and film. Given below is a step-by-step instruction of how to use Advantedge with Adobe After Effects.

Step 1: Installing AdvantEdge

Ultimatte AdvantEdge needs to be installed in the system and opened up in Adobe After Effects. To install the plugin, all you need to do is click on the start-up file and follow the installation procedure. Do key in there requisite details to complete the installation process before you can start using the plugin.

Step 2: Getting Ready to Use AdvantEdge in After Effects

Once you have installed the plugin, launch the After Effects program. After the program is initiated, go to the plugins tab and select the Advantedge plugin so that it is ready to use. Once the plugin is launched, it displays the foreground image in a single display mode that can be changed and is ready to be composited.

Step 3: Using Advantedge in Avert Effects

After you have your foreground image that is ready for compositing, you can select the background and the clean plate wherever necessary and the holdout matte footage in the Timeline window of AdvantEdge setup. What you need to keep in mind here is that the foreground image should be above the background image. Now select the foreground layer and apply the AdvantEdge plugin by selecting it from the Effects tab. Once you have done this, set the clean plate and the hold out matte layers to the corresponding menu in the timeline.

To select the background layer from timeline, use the BG preview pull down. You will have to perform this action if you want to view the background within the plugin’s interface. You also need to ensure that the preview, holdout matte and clean plate images are of the same size as that of the foreground layer.

Step 4: Output file

Launch the plugin’s interface and preview the frame. If you desire to view the other frames, all you need to click on the Jogger option in the AdvantEdge interface and you will be able to view your frames. The default output is the PFG+Alpha format. If you require a different output type, then click on the More tab, select outputs, and you can select between the various output options for your image. All you need to do is toggle the eye in the interface to select between the different output options.
