Creating Water Reflection Effects with Ultimatte Advantedge
Ultimatte Advantegde is a very powerful and advanced plug-in that can be used with several compositing software programs to apply water reflection effects, such as Photoshop, After Effects, Auto Desk and other host applications. In this tutorial we have considered Photoshop as the host application. This step by step guide will show you how you can create water reflections suing Ultimatte AdvantEdge along with Photoshop.
Step 1: Install and Launch the Program
First of all you need to install this advanced plug-in on your hard disk so that it can be used with the host application which is Photoshop in this case. Installing the plug in is simple. All you need to do is click on the set up file and run the installer and follow the installation process. Once you have finished installing the plug-in, launch Photoshop and select the Ultimatte AdvantEdge plug-in and enable it.
Step 2: Create Water Reflection
Once you have enabled AdvantEdge, select the photo that you want to work with in Photoshop. For your photo to look natural in the reflection you should choose a photo that would suit the water surface appropriately. Once you have selected the image and placed it on the top most portion of the canvas, duplicate the background layer and select the new layer and flip it vertically so that it looks like a reflection of the image. To make it look realistic you need to add waves to it or ripples. What you need to do here is to distort the layer by selecting appropriate values on filters like glass filter, noise filter and bass relief filter and add distortion to the layer so that it looks more natural.
Step 3: Fine Tune Your Image
After you have successfully created the water reflection and waves in your image, you can now launch the AdvantEdge filter and create your composite. Once your composite is created, select the roto screen correction feature while the Matte correction mode is enabled in order to fill in all the anomalies like smudges, uneven lighting, blurs and any other anomalies that are present in the composite. This technology offers you a synthetic clean plate which will help reduce artifacts in the picture in question. Next use the Matte density controls to make necessary adjustments to the opacity or the density of the objects in the foreground image. Select the Matte tab from the popup menu and use the Add Matte feature to scrub the areas that have to be fully opaque. While you are doing this, ensure that you do not select objects that should not be opaque, like your water reflections. Once you have completed this action, you can now select the Remove noise feature and eliminate or reduce unwanted shadows in the image.
Step 4: Save Your Project
Once you have completed these steps, all you need to do is click on the ok button and the image is rendered back to the host application which is Photoshop. Save the project and you are done.
