How to Research a College Film School's Credentials

Choosing a college film school is an important decision. For many people, it's their first step to a career that can determine what they will do for the rest of their lives. Film school can be very expensive, and choosing the wrong one can easily set you back $30,000. So, how do you choose which one is right for you? Well, if you've been accepted to NYU or USC, then your decision's an easy one. If not, then you need to research the film schools that have accepted you.

Tour the Campus

You can and should go on a tour of the campus to see it with your own eyes. Ask as many questions as possible and consider even sitting in on a class if possible.

Research the Faculty

Research who the faculty are. These are people who will be instructing you and set the tone for the class. See what they've done in the past before they were teachers. Some schools have faculty who were very successful in the film business but wanted a quieter life. You want teachers who know what they're doing from experience.

See What Other Students Say

Go online and find out what current students think of the school. If they're happy, then the school might be worth your while, but if they're miserable, then consider investing your time and money somewhere else.
