How to Find TV Filming Locations
New York and Los Angeles are the meccas in the United States for TV filming locations. But not every TV show is set in those two locations. That's because a lot of places in those two cities and their surrounding areas look like 90 percent of America. If you're ever visiting one of these great cities, then one activity you might want to try is visiting the locations for your favorite films and movies. But how do you find them? The easiest way is to join a tour group.
Seeing Stars Tours
Both cities have guided tours that will take you to the places where your favorite scenes were shot on location. In Los Angeles, you could take a 'Seeing Stars' tour. On this tour you'll be able to see the Miami locations used on "Dexter," the high school where "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was shot, a Civil War mansion that's been the location for many movies and TV shows, and the office building used in "Die Hard."
If you're in New York, then you could contact a company called 'Screen Tours' which will take you around the Big Apple to the places where many of your favorite movies were shot. This company also specializes in tours that will take you to the locations of "Sex and the City," "The Sopranos," and "Gossip Girl."
The Kenny Kramer Reality Tour
One really interesting tour that you can take in New York is the 'Kenny Kramer Reality Tour.' "Seinfeld" was shot in Los Angeles, but it's based on a lot of the experiences that Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David experienced when living in New York. One of those experiences was Kenny Kramer, the man who the character Kramer is based on. Kenny Kramer has been offering guided tours through the city to show people the locations where a lot of the ideas for the show took place. If you're a Seinfeld fan visiting New York, then this is a tour you should take.
