Complementing a Set's Interior Color Palette with Actors
When deciding on the interior color palette used for your film, you need to give it some consideration. You need to design the color scheme so that you will be able to create an interesting and enticing look for your movie. It's very easy to spot amateur films because of common mistakes with the color palette.
The actors costume designs and colors also need to be able to complement the interior set designs. This makes it really easy to create a film which draws your viewers in. Colors are extremely important because they can make people feel certain emotions. Different colors can create the feeling of stress, calmness or joy.
Step 1: Analyzing the Set
First, you need to take a look at the color design used in your set
and decide how it looks. A good way to do this is to take a photograph
of your entire set so that you will be able to see everything that your
camera can see.
If you haven't already designed your set color
schemes, then this will be something that you need to do before anything
else. Designing your set should be easy and something that is
enjoyable.
Step 2: Deciding on the Dominant Color
Take a look at the photos that you've just taken and try to decide
what the dominant color is. The dominant color is quite simply the most
commonly used or most noticeable color in the video. This will typically
be known beforehand because it will be designed with the dominant color
in mind.
Once you know the dominant color, you will then be able
to easily use it to design costumes. If you can't determine the
dominant color, then you might find it easier to ask someone else to
help you. Quite often a second pair of eyes will spot things that you
miss yourself. If you really struggle or are producing a professional
video, then you could hire an art director to help you get the colors
just right.
Step 3: Designing Costumes
Quite often, it looks good to have the most important actors wear
costumes which are the same color as the dominant color of the scene.
This is a great way to make them look more important and also make it
clear that they are fashionable.
If you are trying to make one of
your actors look unfashionable, then you might try designing costume
colors which deliberately clash with the background or other set colors.
Step 4: Complementary Colors
You might like to choose complimentary colors for the other actors in
the scene. This makes sure that they don't stand out too much, but also
don't clash with the color scheme. If you are not sure about
complementary colors, then you can use a color wheel. Any of the colors
opposite one another on a color wheel will complement each other.
Colors
are very important in all films. That's why you must spend plenty of
time deciding on the colors that you want to use. Colors can make people
feel different emotions.
