7 Benefits of Motion Analysis Video

Motion analysis technology for movies offers several advantages and benefits. This is considered cutting edge technology. The camera will track and record the actor’s movements, then this motion is inputted into a completely digital world. There are no sets, no costumes, and ultimately only 1 actor is truly needed to shoot the movie. The original version of motion analysis used rotoscoping, which was a tedious and difficult process. With the advances of digital and computer technology, motion capture has many advantages over traditional 3D computer animation.

1. Environment

Only one stage is needed to capture the motion. Normally, a motion capture studio is used in which the floor and walls will be the same color. The actor will have dots on them, which are picked up by the camera. Set pieces are not needed at all. Normally with blue screen or green screen, some section of the set will need to exist. With motion capture, none of the set needs to exist, as the performer’s image is not being used in the picture.

2. Time

Motion capture work is much less time intensive than traditional 3D animation. Based off of 1 set of motion capture, many different tests can be produced. Traditional animation will take a long time for tests, and the amount of work needed will vary. With motion capture, the work is very stable, as the complexity will not vary based on the test and animation that is being produced.

3. Volume

Motion capture can produce a large amount of animation. In this same amount of time, traditional animation cannot match the sheer volume of animation that can be produced with motion capture. In this way, a fully animated movie may be able to be created in much less time than a traditional completely animated movie.

4. Cost

Because motion capture takes less time for animation, this reduces the need for costumes, actors and sets. It is a very cost effective and cost efficient method. It is new technology which allows your digital technology, and special effects crew will easily be able to meet the production deadlines. Missing deadlines is one of the worst ways to lose money in movie production.

5. Rapid Capture

The actual motion can be captured and then downloaded into the computer in real time. This produces rapid results, as less key frames are needed to create the animation. Motion capture can record and animate the finger and hand motion with the full body motion.

6. Secondary Movement

Secondary movement, which includes force exchange, weight exchange and other physical interactions, can easily be displayed with motion capture. This is considered a type of complex movement. Making this secondary movement appear real and natural can be difficult with traditional animation. However, because motion capture will actually record this secondary movement, animators have the real movement to work with.

7. Software

As motion capture is used more frequently, the technology that is available will improve as will the cost. From here, motion analysis and motion capture will only get better.
