Android Photo Apps: PhotoFlux

What Is It?

The app makes use of the GPS module in your phone and will be able to send you photos which other people have submitted to Flickr from nearby your location.

How Does It Work?

It's a very handy little app which loads a number of photos which have been uploaded to Flickr. These photos were all taken nearby to where you are currently, which means that you could visit them. It's even easier to find out where they are located because the app is integrated with Google Maps. This means that you can easily navigate your way to the area of interest.

Up to 100 photos are displayed from Flickr for your current region. In the future, this might be expanded. It's possible to select to search for photos within a 10km radius of your location.

Other Features

There are a number of features provided by the app. If you find an image that you are interested in, then you can quite easily zoom in or save it for future reference. You can also learn a lot about the location by selecting a photo you are interested in looking at.

Cost

PhotoFlux is a free application which can be downloaded from the Android Market place and installed very easily. The app can also be uninstalled in the same way as other apps.

Ease of Use

The app is very easy to use. Tapping on the screen will start the process, and the app will then automatically pull photos from Flickr that you might be interested in. The photos can be browsed through like virtually any other gallery application. If you find somewhere that you are interested in, then you will be able to browse the map and find out exactly where they are. It's also possible to get information about the author of the photo and any special visiting tips.

The app is well thought out and starts by displaying a map of your current location. You can adjust the radius, and then select to show the photos from that area. All of the photos are displayed in a large gallery, which can be browsed through. There is a short delay when scrolling down through the gallery, as it must load the extra images from Flickr. Any you are interested in you can tap on to load up in a larger screen.
