How to Download Video from a Canon Camcorder with a Hard Drive
If you are using a Canon hard drive camcorder, then you will need to find out how you can use it to transfer the videos to your computer. This whole process is very easy and shouldn't take very long to complete. These cameras do not have removable memory cards or tapes. However, they do have the benefit of being able to record large amounts of video on a single hard drive.
Step 1: Connect the Camera
The first thing that you will need to do is connect the camera to your computer using the included USB or Firewire cable. The connection on the camera may be hidden by a small plastic cover which will first need to be opened. When the cable is connected, you should then plug the other end into your computer.
Step 2: Set the Mode
By default, your camera is set up to connect using specialist Canon software. However, by adjusting the settings, it is possible to make it act as a removable hard drive which makes it easy to access the files on any computer. These settings can be adjusted on the screen of the cameras by pressing the menu key.
Step 3: Wait for Computer to Install Device
If you have set the camera up to work as a removable disk, then you will need to wait while it is detected and installed by your computer. Simply wait for the computer to install the device and ask you what to do.
Step 4: Copy and Paste
When the device has been detected, it will pop up a prompt that will enable you to open the drive. Select the ones that you want to use and then copy. It's then possible to paste them onto your computer's hard drive.
