Charging the Battery of Your Digital Camcorder

Keeping your digital camcorder battery fully charged will ensure that you can record videos for as long as possible. Your digital camcorder is a useful device which can capture video. Without power though, it's no more useful than a house brick. Charging the battery inside your camcorder is very simple although the method will depend on the make and model of camcorder you have.

If you want to keep your camcorder running for even longer you can purchase a spare battery. The spare battery can be charged and then put inside your camcorder when the original dies.

Equipment Needed

  • Battery Charger
  • Digital Camcorder
  • Battery

Step 1: Reading the Manual

The first thing that you will need to do is read the manual to find out how to charge the camcorder battery. Every camcorder works differently. Some camcorders can be charged by plugging the camcorder directly into a power adapter. The most common method, however, is to remove the battery and put it in a separate charger.

The separate battery charger is the best option because it makes it possible to charge spare batteries without putting them inside your camera.

Step 2: Removing the Battery

Open the battery compartment and remove the rechargeable battery. This is normally held in place with a small clip which will need to be depressed in order to pull the battery out. If you're not sure how to do this then check the manual so that you don't risk causing harm to the sensitive battery contacts.

Step 3: Putting the Battery in the Charger

Now place the battery into the battery charger by pressing it into the slot. Check that the battery is inserted the correct way around so that you don't risk causing any harm to the battery. If the battery is inserted the wrong way round then it can be dangerous as it could potentially cause the battery to explode.

Step 3: Charging the Battery

Once the battery has been placed in the charger it should then be plugged into an electrical outlet. The battery will be charged automatically as soon as the charger is plugged inside.

Step 4: Charged

The indicator light on your battery charger will normally be red or orange while the battery is charging. When the battery is fully charged it will normally change to green. However, some battery chargers may work the other way around. Once the battery is charged it can be removed from the charger and placed in your camcorder.

Unplug the charger once you have finished charging the batteries. This will prevent electricity being wasted as most chargers stay on even when the batteries are charged.

Step 5: Charging Spare Batteries

Spare batteries can then be put inside the charger and charged one by one. When using your batteries you must ensure that you run them down fully. Try to avoid charging a half charged battery because this can make them hold less charge.

Try to use your batteries as quickly as possible. Leaving your batteries fully charged for a long time can cause damage to your batteries. Taking care of your batteries carefully will ensure that they last for as long as possible.
