Selling Photos Online: Established Vendors
Anyone who is interested in photography might be interested in selling photos online as a way to make a bit of extra money. There are two main methods used to sell photos online, either selling on your own private web site or by selling on stock photography web sites. Stock photography web sites are becoming an increasingly popular way to make some extra money fairly easily without needing to actually build your own web site.
Selling photos on stock photography web sites is simply a matter of registering for an account, uploading the photos and then setting your prices.
Step 1 - Selling the Rights
When you sell photographs on stock photography web sites you are not actually selling the photo itself, actually you are selling someone the right to be able to use the photo. You do not necessarily have to give up your own rights to the image and can actually continue selling the rights as many times as you want. These are not exclusive rights and often have limitations on them, for example you might only be allowed to use the image for certain reasons. It is also possible to sell exclusive rights on some web sites.
Step 2 - Good Photos
You need to have a repertoire of photos that are worth purchasing before you begin. Try to make your photographs as appealing as possible, but also keep a mind on the needs of marketing. Family photos are all very nice but these won't be as profitable as other sorts of photos. Take a look at some of the stock photography web sites and look at the types of images which are available.
You may find that cutting away the background of an image works very well and instantly makes the window much more desirable.
Step 3 - Registering
Now you should register for some of the popular stock photo web sites on the Internet. There are many different stock photography web sites, some of these include istockphoto, bigstockphoto and dreamstime. You will quite often be asked to send in a sample photo before you are allowed to start selling any photos on the web site. You must ensure that you meet the guidelines required. Ensure you know who will own the rights of your photos, make sure that you will retain the rights wherever possible.
Step 4 - Submitting Photos
Once you are registered and have been approved it's now time to start submitting photos. You should submit a lot of photos because there's a very good chance that most of these photos will end up being rejected. This is nothing to worry about and is actually perfectly normal especially when you're just starting. Over time your photography skills should start to improve and your success rate will improve too.
Step 5 - Choosing Keywords
The keywords are very important when uploading images because this will be how other users will find the photos. Carefully choose the different keywords to use to describe your photos as this will make it much easier for you to make money from your photos.Popular Cameras for High Quality Photos:
