Production: How To Get Amateur Actors
If you are trying to film videos, then you will need to find a way to get some actors on board. You can either hire professionals or alternatively you can hire amateur actors instead. Amateurs are much more affordable and can help you to produce just as good results if you know how to explain things to them.
While amateurs might not be as experienced or professional, they will be good at working. They will also be easier to book because they will not be demanded as much. It will also be much cheaper to hire these people. Amateur actors will need more attention and direction because they are not experienced. This won't necessarily be a bad thing though.
Step 1: Flyers
The first thing that you should do is design some flyers on the
computer advertising your need for amateur actors. These flyers are very
cheap to produce, as it's possible to design them yourself with any
computer. You can then either print them yourself or alternatively you
can take them to a local print shop to have them professionally printed.
These
flyers can be handed out to everyone you meet. You never know who might
be interested in a job as an amateur actor. After all, you are trying
to find beginners rather than seasoned professionals. You might also
have luck displaying the flyers in shop windows and libraries. You
should, however, ask permission before sticking it anywhere to save it
from getting torn down.
Step 2: Newspapers
Another great way to find these amateur actors is to create a newspaper ad, and put it in the classifieds section. These are normally cheap or very affordable. It's amazing just how many people this appeals to.
Step 3: Internet
The Internet has become one of the most useful tools in the world. It's also a great way to find all sorts of people. Advertising your need for amateur actors on sites like Craigslist should make it much easier to find someone. You will be surprised how many people see these ads and get in touch with you.
Step 4: Short Lists
Once you start getting some applications, you need to start listing them and then working out which ones you want to see. While all of them will be fairly inexperienced, there are probably certain things that you are looking for.
Step 5: Auditions
With your shortlist prepared, you will then be able to hold auditions. This is very easy to do. You can hold the auditions at your home or studio. You could also rent somewhere specifically for the auditions if you wish. The auditions are a great way to get to know how the people will be able to perform in different situations. You can either ask them to read a section of your script or prepare something else to read to you.
Step 6: Choose the Actors
Once you have seen all the auditions, you can then choose which ones you want to hire. This will probably be a hard decision, and you might want to call people back for second auditions if you wish. You will then need to negotiate rates and the hours required to finish the projects.
