Production Crew: Professionals vs. Volunteers

To film a good video, you will need to hire a crew  of some sort. Hiring a crew can be expensive, which is why many people turn to hiring volunteers. However, it is important to work out whether or not this is the right option for you. Filming a professional video is time consuming and requires a lot of skills.

Hiring Amateurs

Hiring Amateurs for your production crew will be much cheaper than trying to hire professionals. However, they probably won't know much about what they are doing. While this isn't necessarily a problem, you will need to allow more time to film and edit. You will also have to allow time to train and teach the amateurs how to produce your video. This is an added cost that most people will forget to factor in. Also bear in mind that the amateurs will be more likely to make mistakes, resulting in more time wasted.

If you do decide to hire amateurs, then you should choose carefully. Choosing crew which have at least a little experience will be beneficial and make it much easier to film a professional video.

A much easier option would be to hire professionals as your crew. These professionals will know much more about what is needed to film a brilliant video. This will mean that you don't need to worry about any extra training time, which might be required to train your crew. Professionals will have much more experience and be able to do a variety of different things. They will also be much less likely to make any mistakes, which will make them waste less film and time.

Professionals will also be able to make recommendations based on their experience. This should make it much easier to learn about exactly what you should do to make the very best and most impressive film. Professionals will, however, be much more expensive than an amateur crew. This is because they have much more experience and training. If you are hiring professionals, then you should check their credentials and experience to make sure that they are really worth the price that you are paying for them.

Which Should You Choose?

Whether you choose professionals or amateurs is completely up to you. Normally if you are hiring professional actors, then you should also hire a professional production crew because the time required to produce the video will be much more costly. If you have enough time to devote to training, you might decide to go with volunteers. Also, if you intend to use the same crew again on future projects, then you can treat the training as an investment. Investing in training an amateur crew will make it much easier to hire a trusted crew again at the future.

You could also consider hiring a crew made up of mostly amateurs with a few professionals. This should reduce the training times and also make the end results much better.
