Coolpix Pixel Remapper Utility for Windows XP, 2000
This is a utility that was written for the Coolpix 2500 but works for many other
Nikon Coolpix cameras that connect to the host computer via USB and act as a
Mass Storage Device (removable drive.) Cameras tested Coolpix 2500, 995, 4500,
5000, 5700. Utility can read existing defect map, remap defective (hot) pixels
and black (dead) pixels - not all functions work with all cameras, see the author's
website as this program is being constantly updated. Most of the text at the website
is in Russian but there are links to DP Review's forum where this program has been
extensively discussed and its use fully explained. It is FREE and I have used it on
my Coolpix 995 with amazing results - even my 2 and 4 second exposures are now free of
all hot pixels.
MOV Tweak for Windows
This little program changes the display size of Quicktime VR movies. I wrote this
because the PhotoStitch program that came with my Canon G2 only creates 400*300
size panoramas and I wanted a wider view.
Please note that the program is tested only with Panoramas created with the
combination of PhotoStitch / QuickTime VR, using it with QTVR files created in an
other way, may not give the required result.

PixelZap removes "hot pixels" from digicam images
Corrects hot pixels caused by long exposures, it will
automatically detect, and correct hot pixels. Also corrects hot pixels
caused by a defective or aging CCD and corrects only those pixels that
are specified by the user.
PixelZap uses low-level JPEG
compression/decompression techniques to resave a JPEG image with
essentially no image quality degradation.
It also retains EXIF data in the corrected image, and its default detection
and correction algorithms search for hot pixels in 2x2 clusters. This 2x2
clustering occurs because of the way color information is recorded by digital
cameras, and allows PixelZap to accurately detect problem pixels, and
lowers the chance of PixelZap falsely detecting bright points in the image
that are not caused by hot-pixels.
PixelZap is a command-line (DOS) program designed to be as small (approx.
130KB) and fast as possible. It is also available as a Windows program
(PZapGUI) for those who prefer a graphical version.
PixelZap and PZapGUI are released as shareware, but
will operate for an unlimited time without registration. However, the
unregistered versions are limited to processing images no larger than
640x480.

This utility will analyze lens cap shots for dead and/or hot pixels and show the
results. The test is done by analyzing the luminance as well as the RGB values of

HotPixels Eliminator for Windows
Freeware utility for removing "hot pixels" (random white and colored dots) that appear
when a digital camera is used with the shutter open for long exposures. Can also
remove the "blue chunks" that are also common in long exposure shots.
BlackFrame NR for Windows
From MediaChance, the same people that gave you HotPixels Eliminator. Blackframe is
also used to remove hot pixels from long time exposures but it requires that you shoot
the same shot a second time with the lens cap on. This gives you a dark frame to
compare against the picture to make it easy to find and remove the hot pixels and other
